Hockey is coming back this winter! On Sunday, the NHL and NHLPA announced the formalized plans for the 2020-21 season though it s really the 2021 season, since it s beginning on Jan. 13.
Things are going to look different though, as the league navigates playing 868 games over 116 days amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Here s everything we know and what we still need to know about how the league plans on pulling it off.
When will the season begin?
Training camps will begin on Jan. 3, though the seven teams that did not qualify for the 2020 postseason are allowed to open camp on Dec. 31. Teams are able to invite 36 skaters and an unlimited number of goalies to camp. ....

The NHL and NHL Players Association revealed plans on Sunday for a 56-game regular season set to begin on Jan. 13. No health and safety protocols were announced, but it appears teams will be able to allow fans if local governments allow it. 
According to Matthew DeFranks of the Dallas Morning News, Dallas Stars CEO Brad Alberts says American Airlines Arena plans to host around 5,000 fans per game during the 2020-21 season.
The Stars will have fans for home games at the American Airlines Center this season, Stars CEO and president Brad Alberts said. Final capacity still to be finalized but could be around 5,000. Matthew DeFranks (@MDeFranks) December 20, 2020 ....

NHL announces details for 56-game season and playoffs


It’s official!
The NHL and the NHLPA have reached an agreement to play the 2020-21 season, with a 56-game regular season beginning January 13 and concluding May 8.
Due to the closed Canada-USA border, all seven Canadian teams will play in the newly formed North Division, with American teams playing in realigned West, Central, and East Divisions.

To minimize travel, teams will play exclusively against the other teams in their division, at their home arenas.
