Canucks add Luke Schenn, 11 other depth players in free agency

Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports
Jim Benning said he would be aggressive, but I’m not sure anyone expected him to be this busy.
Benning made a flurry of moves on the first day of free agency today, most notably inking Travis Hamonic and Tucker Poolman on defence, Jaroslav Halak in goal, and Brandon Sutter on forward.
But it doesn’t stop there.
Aside from signing those four players, the Canucks announced the signing of 12 more depth players, with some likely to start in Vancouver and others destined for Abbotsford, including the re-signing of forward Justin Bailey to a one-year, two-way contract. The Abbotsford Canucks promise to be a very strong team next season, with a number of players with NHL experience likely to suit up for the new AHL team. ....

A fan favourite is returning to the Vancouver Canucks.
The Canucks have announced a number of depth defenceman signings on the opening of free agency today. The biggest name among the four announced so far is 31-year-old Luke Schenn.
The eldest of the Schenn brothers is re-joining the Canucks on a two-year deal with $850,000 per season. Currently, he slots in as the seventh or eighth defenceman on the Canucks depth chart.
That’s exactly where a player of Schenn’s calibre belongs. Unfortunately, there’s a good argument that the three other guys ahead of him on the right side (Travis Hamonic, Tyler Myers and Tucker Poolman) aren’t all that much more effective. ....

Stanley Cup Playoffs filled with Indigenous representation - The Turtle Island News

Stanley Cup Playoffs filled with Indigenous representation

By Josh Giles Writer The NHL Stanley Cup playoffs have just gotten underway, and the number of Indigenous players competing for the cup is huge. The players make up seven players, two of which are on their teams’ taxi squads and a head coach. Starting off the taxi squad players are Brady Keeper and Garrett Pilon. Keeper is a Cree defenseman from Cross Lake, Manitoba. Unfortunately for Keeper, he hasn’t had too much NHL exposure, only appearing in a single game this season, and not having any goals or assists. There’s little chance that he will make an appearance with the Florida Panthers during their playoff run. Similar to Keeper, Pilon has only appeared in a game for the Washington Nationals with no points to show either. The Métis center… ....
