Activists laud step, but hope new amendments will stop unnecessary tree felling
The state has made amendments regarding conservation of trees over 50 years old, and have given them the tag ‘Heritage Trees’. The amendment to the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and Preservation of Trees Act, 1975, was approved by both the houses on Monday and will restrict felling of trees in the name of development.

PCMC rebukes environment activist
The civic body claims his pestering about the tree-felling issue has already been dealt with
Irked with the constant complaints made by an
environment activist on the Smart Sarathi app, the
Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (
PCMC) has sent a letter to the activist concerned and has rather asked him to make complaints in a written form and then submit it to the corporation.
The municipal
corporation claims that despite resolving multiple complaints of
Prashant Raul, he lodges complaints about the same topics again and again. Raul (40) is an environment activist living in
Bhosari, and for the past few months he has made more than 25 complaints with the PCMC.
