After Piramal Group’s acquisition of crisis-ridden non-banking finance company (NBFC) Dewan Housing Finance Corporation (DHFL) early this year, billionaire businessman Adar Poonawalla has become the latest industrialist to jump on to the NBFC bandwagon.
Rising Sun Holdings, a company controlled in his personal capacity by Serum Institute of India CEO Adar Poonawalla, announced a transaction on February 10 to acquire a controlling stake in Magma Fincorp (MFL), a non-banking financial company (NBFC). The deal will be carried out via a preferential issue of Magma Fincorp s equity shares worth Rs 3,456 crore. The deal also includes an open offer as per SEBI norms. ....

DHFL: DHFL shares jump as Piramal set to take over crisis-hit lender

BENGALURU: Shares in India s Dewan Housing Finance Corp Ltd (
DHFL) jumped on Monday after the troubled mortgage lender s creditors voted in favour of a $5 billion takeover bid from the Piramal Group.
The stock, which gained 76 per cent last year after two years of sharp falls, rose 5 per cent in early trading and hit an upper price limit of 27.55 rupees.
Once one of India s biggest non-banking financial companies (NBFCs), or shadow banks, DHFL had accumulated debts of almost 1 trillion rupees ($13.7 billion) before defaulting on payments to its creditors.
The NBFC industry, a key source of credit to millions, has been plagued by a credit crunch triggered by the collapse of lending major IL&FS in 2018. ....

DHFL hits the roof after CoC approves Piramal's resolution plan

Dewan Housing Finance Corporation (DHFL) hit an upper circuit of 5% at Rs 27.50 after the Committee of Creditors (CoC) of the company approved the resolution plan submitted by Piramal Capital and Housing Finance.
In a regulatory filing made on Sunday (17 January 2021), the mortgage lender said that the e-voting on resolutions pursuant to the 18th meeting of the Committee of Creditors of the company (CoC) concluded on 15 January 2021 and the resolution plan submitted by Piramal Capital and Housing Finance was duly approved by CoC by majority voting, as the successful resolution plan.
As per reports, Piramal s bid received 94% votes as compared to 45% for the US-based Oaktree Capital. ....
