Novant to build $222 million tower at Forsyth Medical Center.

Novant Health Inc. said Thursday that it will spend $222 million to build a critical-care tower at Forsyth Medical Center projected to open in late 2024.
The tower is the largest investment by Novant for its main Triad hospital and is the second phase of an overall $403.4 million project at the Winston-Salem hospital.
Chad Setliff, president of Novantâs greater Winston-Salem market, said the system âdoes not anticipate additional mega projects at Forsyth for the foreseeable future. Setliff defined mega projects as being more than $10 million in capital investments.
The tower will be built on the site of the hospitalâs Rehabilitation Center, which will be torn down. The tower is projected to open 24 months after that demolition is completed. ....

Novant officially acquires New Hanover hospital, establishes third N.C. hub

Novant Health Inc. completed Monday its $5.3 billion acquisition of New Hanover Regional Medical Center, establishing a third major operational hub in North Carolina.
The announcement comes 11 days after Josh Stein, the state s attorney general, said he would not object to the dealÂ â the final anti-trustÂ regulatory approval required.
Novant received final approval Oct. 5 by a 4-1 New Hanover Board of Commissioners vote to acquire the 59-year-old health-care system through an asset purchase.
Throughout this process, Novant Health has been confident in the tremendous benefits this partnership would bring to the community, Carl Armato, Novant s chief executive and president, said in a statement. ....

WILMINGTON On July 23, 2019, citing increased financial uncertainty and the level of funding needed to expand facilities and services amid the area’s rapid growth, officials announced plans to explore selling New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Barring any last-minute hurdles, on Monday, Feb. 1, 2020 18 months later and in the midst of the area’s worst health crisis in a century the county-owned health system will officially become Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center. It will operate as a part of Novant’s Winston-Salem-based private nonprofit health network. ....
