Concerns arise over how tax plan would affect West Virginia businesses

Concerns are emerging about how Gov. Jim Justice’s tax plan might affect West Virginia businesses.
Those worries have arisen in speeches at the state Legislature and in analysis by tax experts who monitor changes at the state level. One analyst predicted West Virginia’s tax proposal could increase taxes on business up to $330 million.
Delegate Jason Barrett, R-Berkeley, spoke on the House floor to say he supports a phase-out of the income tax. But he worried that what the governor proposes instead is out of balance. ....

CHARLESTON – The West Virginia House of Delegates on Tuesday joined with their state Senate colleagues in passing a bill making it clear that strikes and work stoppages by public employees are illegal.
Senate Bill 11, declaring a work stoppage or strike by public employees to be unlawful, passed the House 53-46, with several Republicans joining Democratic lawmakers in opposing the bill.
According to the roll call, 23 out of the 76 Republicans who voted on the bill voted against it, joining the 23 Democrats who voted in a solid block against the bill. Delegate Erikka Storch, R-Ohio, voted against the measure, as did Marshall County Republican Delegate Charlie Reynolds and Tyler County Republican Delegate Dave Kelly. ....
