RICHMOND, Va. - Governor Northam has announced that he is endorsing Delegate Jay Jones in the 2021 Virginia Attorney General race.
Jay Jones is the current delegate for Virginia s 89th District which covers parts of Hampton Roads and he is a Norfolk native.
The Democratic Primary in this race is in June. Current Attorney General Mark Herring and Jay Jones are the only two Democrats running at this time.
Governor Northam s statement said, âWe have made lasting progressive change over the last four years from Medicaid Expansion to abolishing the death penalty to criminal justice reform, but it is time for a new generation of leaders to take the reins. Norfolk Delegate Jay Jones says he will seek the Democratic nomination for Attorney General.
(WDBJ) - Virginia Governor Ralph Northam Thursday announced his endorsement of Delegate Jay Jones for attorney general. This is the governor’s first endorsement of the 2021 cycle.
In a statement Thursday morning, Gov. Northam said:
“We have made lasting progressive change over the last four years from Medicaid expansion to abolishing the death penalty to criminal justice reform, but it is time for a new generation of leaders to take the reins. Jay Jones has stood with me every step of the way in our journey to make Virginia a more just and equitable place to live. He has been my partner as we have worked to change our Commonwealth. In a major snub to incumbent Attorney General Mark Herring, Governor Ralph Northam is endorsing his opponent in the Democratic primary Delegate Jay Jones of Norfolk. Northam says he s endorsing Jones because he says it s time for a new generation of leaders.

NORFOLK, Va. Volunteers laid ten floral wreaths around Norfolk to remember those who lost their lives to COVID-19.
