People gather on Zoom for Virtual Disability Services Day

ROCHESTER, Minn- Dozens of people gathered virtually on Tuesday to meet with their legislators for Virtual Disability Services Day at the Capitol in St Paul. Although they couldn t be there in person, the pandemic didn t stop them from meeting on Zoom.
One of the advocates for Disability Services Day was PossAbilities of Southern Minnesota. Its executive director Susan Mackert tells KIMT News 3 that the event is a way to bring attention to the issues faced by people with disabilities.

ROCHESTER, Minn. - Rep. State Sen. Carla Nelson and DFL State Representative Jennifer Schultz announced the introduction of their bipartisan bill aimed at lowering the price of non-name brand versions of common biological prescription drugs.
The bill aims to make the drugs more available to Minnesotans.
The bipartisan measure unveiled today would require health plans and pharmacy benefit managers to cover all versions of the non-name brand alternatives to biological medications, known as biosimilars.
The change would give all patients access to the most affordable and effective version of their medication without compromising safety standards.

Republicans at MN Legislature oppose DFL push to expand MinnesotaCare

Republicans are resisting Democrats’ renewed push to make MinnesotaCare the state-run health insurance program available to all Minnesotans regardless of income, with people paying premiums on a sliding scale depending on how much they make. Sponsor, DFL state Representative Jennifer Schultz from Duluth:
“This bill should reduce out-of-pocket spending, reduce uncompensated care, increase competition on the individual market and leverage significant federal funding.”
But Republican Representative Joe Schomacker from Luverne warns, because MinnesotaCare reimburses medical providers for less than their overhead…
