In a pre-produced video provided to local media outlets by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office last week, the county Sheriff talks about the agency’s latest initiative.
“We haven’t had a widespread outbreak and we want to keep it that way,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We’re not just protecting our inmates, we’re protecting our detention personnel as well as the community when they get released,” Chronister said in a string of soundbites his office emailed as part of a press release announcing it was starting to offer the COVID-19 vaccine to local inmates. The announcement came a week after we firs ....

CBS hits back at DeSantis: Publix did too have exclusive rights to distribute the vaccine in Palm Beach County

AP Photo/Chris O Meara
How many statements have they issued digging in further since the criticism of their hit piece began, even as members of their own industry have sheepishly conceded that DeSantis has a right to be angry in this case? This has to be at least the third.
To refresh your memory, the chief objection to the “60 Minutes” report on DeSantis and Publix is that it insinuated without proof that there was a quid pro quo between the two. Publix gave DeSantis $100,000, “60 Minutes” noted, and Publix ended up as the first major distributor of the COVID vaccine in Florida. That’s all there was to the allegation; there’s no evidence that a deal was struck, just innuendo. This long new statement is distinguished by the fact that ....

Two bills in Florida would legalize power purchase agreements for schools (finally)

“It is inconceivable that in Florida, renowned as the ’Sunshine State,’ just 2% of all our electricity generation is sourced from solar,” Sen. Berman said. “Our nonprofits, municipalities, businesses and schools have been blocked from financing their own small-scale solar projects, infringing on their energy rights and shutting them out of electricity savings. SB 1718 will remove this legal barrier and authorize their use of power purchase agreements. It is time for Florida to join more than 28 other states in doing so.”

With a PPA, a developer installs, owns, and operates a solar system on a customer’s property. The customer purchases the system’s electric output at a fixed rate. This is generally a lower rate than what they pay to their utility company. The PPA contract lasts for a fixed period, usually 15-25 years. In addition to significant cost savings, incorporating solar into schools can enhance classroom learning and communit ....

Florida Rep 'Disappointed' That Trump's' Mar-a-Lago Not Shut Down for Violating Mask Order

Florida Rep Disappointed That Trump s Mar-a-Lago Not Shut Down for Violating Mask Order
On 1/14/21 at 3:25 PM EST
Florida state Representative Omari Hardy said Wednesday it is disappointing that President Donald Trump s Mar-a-Lago resort was not shut down by Palm Beach County officials after the club violated the county s mask order during a New Year s Eve party.
County officials agree that Mar-a-Lago violated our mask order, but they re not trying to fine the business or shut it down even temporarily. This is disappointing. It sends a message that you can get away with violating our mask order. Not good, Hardy wrote in a tweet. ....
