Idaho ethics committee recommends expelling lawmaker accused of raping intern

The accuser, who testified behind a black curtain to keep her identity private, claimed she told Von Ehlinger no in several different ways before he attempted to initiate sexual contact.
“How do I explain that vomiting on myself in the bathroom … calling my mom because I’m terrified. … How do I explain that to the committee, what you’ve done to me?” she said of being forced to testify. “I came here fighting and earning your respect. But I don’t blame you. I forgive you. You’re doing your job, and I am too.”
Von Ehlinger did not answer questions during the hearing, at the insistence of his lawyer, though the committee voted to hold him in contempt as a result of it. ....

An Idaho state representative has resigned from the state House. Aaron von Ehlinger, a Republican from Lewiston, leaves office on the same day that a legislative ethics committee recommended that he be expelled.
On Wednesday, members of the Idaho House Ethics Committee heard testimony detailing Representative Aaron von Ehlinger’s encounter with the 19-year-old woman who accused him of raping her. Von Ehlinger admitted he took the woman to dinner and to his apartment, but he wouldn’t comment on any sexual activity that occurred. That was cited by Ethics Committee chairman Rep. Sage Dixon [R-Ponderay] in his response Thursday morning. ....

Idaho lawmaker resigns House seat after ethics committee decision


Rep. Aaron von Ehlinger (R - Lewiston) was accused of rape and inappropriate conduct with a 19-year-old intern. 
On Wednesday, a House Ethics Committee heard testimony from the victim, who is being identified only as Jane Doe. It also heard testimony from other women, who claimed von Ehlinger had made advances or romantically pursued them. One Capitol security officer also spoke about a sexual relationship she had with von Ehlinger. 
Von Ehlinger refused to answer questions in the hearing on Wednesday, citing the Fifth Amendment against self-incrimination. 
Previously, von Ehlinger had said his encounter with the 19-year-old was consensual. 
Today, the ethics committee unanimously voted to approve a motion to censure von Ehlinger, either by suspending him without pay or permanently expelling him from the Legislature.  ....
