Prosecutor Amélie Rivard asked Wednesday that Sylvain Villemaire, 60, receive an overall 18-year sentence for the crimes he was convicted of earlier this year and pleaded guilty to last year, including human trafficking, distribution of child pornography and sexual interference of a person under the age of 16.

During sentencing arguments made at the Montreal courthouse before Quebec Court Judge Pierre Labelle, Rivard asked that Villemaire, a man who used to help students with learning disabilities, be sentenced to two years for distributing child pornography, 11 years for how he sexually abused the girl and five years for human trafficking. She also asked that the sentences be served consecutively and that other sentences for related offences be served concurrently. ....

In another case, Barbeau approached another 11-year-old girl while she used a video chat application. He somehow convinced the girl to expose her chest while they chatted. Later on, while the same girl was on Facebook, Barbeau sent her screen-capture photos of herself with her shirt raised. He demanded more nude photos and she sent Barbeau 27 images.
He also used other applications popular with children including Kik Messenger and Musical.ly to approach the other victims.
The Montreal police eventually traced the messages sent to the girls and their parents to a semi-detached home in LaSalle where Barbeau lived at the time with two roommates. When the police searched the house, they found 33 images of the same girl on one of three electronic devices found inside his bedroom. A total of 1,087 images considered to be child pornography were found on the devices. ....
