Photos courtesy of the Pinole Police Department A man was arrested on suspicion of shooting into an unoccupied vehicle in Pinole on at least two occasions during the early morning hours, including at 2:44 a.m. this morning, police said. Police responded to the 800 block of Patrick Drive on a report of several gunshots and found the vehicle with recent gunfire damage to the body and windows. “No persons were found to be injured and no damage to surrounding vehicles or residences was discovered,” police said. The shooter fled the area, but Pinole police investigated and identified a suspect, a Pinole resident, who was detained by officers just after 10 a.m. ....
Photo courtesy of the Pinole Police Department An out-of-control pickup truck smashed through the concrete barrier of a Pinole overpass before dropping nose-first onto the freeway Sunday afternoon, according to police. The driver of the white Toyota Tacoma was found conscious following the solo-vehicle crash that occurred at about 3:55 p.m. at Appian Way. The driver had been making a left turn onto southbound Appian Way when they lost control of their vehicle and drove up onto the curb, police said. The truck then crashed through the concrete barrier before dropping on the freeway nose first. The vehicle then rolled onto the roof before landing upright, police said. ....

(Photos credited to the Pinole Police Department) A man on death row for the 1983 murders of two people, including a Pinole police officer, died of natural causes on Friday at age 71, according to the California Dept. of Corrections. James Odle was sentenced to death on Aug. 12, 1983, for the first-degree murders of Rena Aguilar and Pinole Police Officer Floyd “Bernie” Swartz. According to detailed description of the crimes in Master Detective magazine, Odle beat Aguilar with a tire iron and also stabbed her and strangled her, reportedly because he believed she would inform police that he had stolen a van. Several days later when police were closing in on him, Odle fatally shot Officer Swartz with a sawed-off shotgun in a backyard near Dolores Court. Odle surrendered following shootouts with officers. ....

Odle was also convicted of vehicle theft, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, and manufacture/sale/possession of a weapon. Suspect in high-speed chase faces long list of allegations VALLEJO The man who led law enforcement agencies on a high-speed chase Wednesday down westbound Interstate 80 has been identified as an Oakland resident who was at “the center of several investigations that spanned three counties.” Webster Johnson, the Solano County Sheriff’s Office reported Thursday, is suspected in crimes that occurred in Solano, Contra Costa and Alameda counties. Johnson, 30, was booked into Solano County jail on suspicion of attempted murder, being an accessory to a crime, first-degree robbery, evading police with disregard for public safety, two counts of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition and six counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a first responder, all felonies, along with suspected felony and misdemeanor probation violations. ....
