Pinellas County deputy charged with domestic battery, false imprisonment

The incident occurred about 4:45 p.m. Feb. 10 at a private residence in Palm Harbor.
Sheriffâs office supervisors began an investigation about 10:15 p.m. Feb. 10 into an incident between Deputy Jared Toro, 23, and his girlfriend, according to a press release.
Detectives learned that late in the afternoon on Feb.10, Toroâs girlfriend confronted him about infidelity. Detectives say an argument ensued while Toro was putting on his uniform and getting ready for work. The argument escalated into a physical altercation during which Toro committed domestic battery by holding the victim against a wall and handcuffing her behind her back.
Detectives say the victim was forced to sit on the floor for several minutes and her movements were restrained by the handcuffs. Toro then removed the handcuffs and left. ....

HACKERS infiltrated a water treatment plant in a Florida town on Friday and tried to poison the water supply, police have revealed.
The hackers broke into the facility serving Oldsmar, a town near Tampa, Florida, and increased the sodium hydroxide amount from 100 parts per million to 11,100 parts per million for a short time frame.

“In these mega quantities, it s a caustic substance,” Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said on Monday.

Adam Johnson, 36, of Parrish appeared in front of a federal judge in Tampa on Monday and was charged with three felonies related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol building.
He became notorious on social media as the “Podium Guy” for allegedly stealing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s lectern and carrying it throughout the Capitol grounds. A judge has ordered $25,000 bail.
Johnson has been charged with one count of knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority; one count of theft of government property; and one count of violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds. Johnson was arrested Friday night and released Monday at 1:16 p.m. on bail. ....

A Florida couple gave their babysitter free marijuana and alcohol while she watched their children dozens of times over the past two years, police said.
Adam Thayer, 38, and his wife, Misty Mitchell-Thayer, first hired the teenage babysitter in 2018, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. The unidentified girl was 15 years old at the time and charged with watching the Thayers’ 5-year-old twin boys.
Over the next two years, the couple gave the babysitter alcohol and weed around 30-40 times while she watched the kids, cops said. The babysitter admitted to investigators that she would get drunk and high and would not have been capable of caring for the children in an emergency. ....
