BIJNOR: Kamaal Ahmad, his wife and 5-year-old child contracted Covid-19 on April 10. It took 15 days for the family to recover. In that time, Ahmad’s perspective on life had changed. Now Ahmad, a manager with Indian Bank, and three of his childhood friends Raghav Sharan Goel, a realtor; Nazim, a Jal Nigam contractor, and Bhupender Sharma, a journalist have got together, pooling their resources, to set up a 20-bed Covid care centre in Bijnor’s Dhampur town.
“It was tough,” Ahmad, in his mid-30s like his friends, said. “My family and I were down. I resolved to fight back. I also vowed that after I am fine, I will help others do the same. Once on my feet, my friends joined me. I began contacting authorities. I immediately got positive responses from people when I spoke about setting up the facility.” The stay and treatment is free at the centre. ....

New Delhi: The total number of FIRs filed under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance, 202o has risen to 11 with fresh cases registered in Shahjahanpur and Kannauj, meaning it has been invoked approximately once every 48 hours since its promulgation on November 27, reported

New Delhi: A private lab in Bijnor has confirmed that the 22-year-old woman, who was sent to a shelter home pursuant to a report by a Bajrang Dal unit to the Uttar Pradesh police about an alleged instance of ‘love jihad’ made punishable under the recently promulgated anti-conversion ordinance in the state, had a miscarriage. ....

11 FIRs under U.P. ordinance so far

At least 34 persons have been arrested, say police in various districts
With fresh cases in Shahjahanpur and Kannauj, the number of FIRs lodged under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance, 2020 has reached 11.
The ordinance was promulgated on November 27 and since then, it has been invoked roughly once in 48 hours. At least 34 persons have been arrested so far, the police in various districts said.
Along with those in Shahjahanpur and Kannauj, the police have lodged cases under the new ordinance in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Mau, Bijnor, Hardoi, Sitapur, Muzaffarnagar, Moradabad, Bareilly and Etah.
In Kannauj, a case was lodged under Sections 3 and 5 of the ordinance in Gurusahaiganj against a Muslim man in his thirties for marrying a Hindu girl, aged 26, allegedly through a fraudulent Hindu identity.
