PICAYUNE, Miss. (WLOX) - âMaking downtown more loveable.â Thatâs the title of an award-winning design by Picayune Main Street. The city put another piece of that entire project in place across from City Hall on Monday.
New South, old charm and Main Street Picayune: those are the three main cogs in what the cityâs business and community leaders hope will keep the current downtown revitalization wave going in this area.
On Monday, ribbon-cutting ceremonies were held for a new parking lot across from City Hall, complete with cobblestones, scored concrete bumpers and another Picayune-themed façade mural in progress.

PICAYUNE, Miss. (WLOX) - âWe could be dealing with three homicides here.â
Thatâs the sobering thought Picayune Police Chief Freddy Drennan knows could have easily been reality in his city Sunday afternoon when gunfire erupted outside an apartment complex.
A 13-year-old boy now sits in the Pearl River County jail on a $1.5 million bond, charged as an adult with three felony counts of aggravated assault. Drennan said the motive for the shooting was an ongoing argument between the suspect and some other juveniles, though he described the crime as âa random actâ because the victims were not part of the argument with the suspect.

PICAYUNE, Miss. (WLOX) - In Picayune, three juveniles are currently recovering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds after a shooting on Sunday.
“It was about 4 yesterday afternoon and I was in my house and I heard six rapid gunshots,” said one nearby resident who wished to remain anonymous.
Those multiple gunshots the resident described came from Grande Oak apartments located on South Haugh Avenue.
Picayune Police Chief Freddy Drennan said the three minors were shot, all in the leg, with a pistol by another minor after an ongoing verbal altercation.
