Connell Exploits Piles To Cop REDCREST Crown Friday, February 26, 2021 By MLF Communications Staff Some days out on the water, its like you can do no wrong. Fifth-year pro Dustin Connell had one of those days Friday. Connell, of Clanton, Ala., caught 12 fish weighing 36-15 to win REDCREST 2021, the Bass Pro Tour championship, and earn the top prize of $300,000 at Lake Eufaula in his home state. Connell grabbed the lead in the second period and never looked back, winning by a 5-11 margin over 2nd-place pro Michael Neal of Dayton, Tenn., who caught 10 bass totaling 31-04, good for $60,000. I still cant believe this, I really cant, said an emotional Connell after being awarded the REDCREST trophy. This is truly what dreams are made of. I look around and I see guys like Jacob (Wheeler), (Bryan) Thrift, Ott (DeFoe), and I am just so blessed to be fishing against these guys. Its an honor just to be here and compete. B.A.S.S. Gilliland appointed to habitat board Wednesday, February 24, 2021
B.A.S.S. conservation director Gene Gilliland has accepted a seat on the National Fish Habitat Partnership (NFHP) Board. Chartered by Congress in 2006, NFHP coordinates 20 regionally-based Fish Habitat Partnerships, each working to improve fish habitat, and has supported more than 1,000 projects benefiting fish habitat in all 50 states. In this new role with the National Fish Habitat Partnership Board of Directors, I will be representing not only the 515,000 B.A.S.S. members but the broader community of freshwater recreational anglers, said Gilliland. My goal in volunteering for the NFHP Board is to ensure that freshwater recreational fishing is a priority in the decision-making and funding process. ....
