Public schools in the Tampa Bay area finished the 2020-21 academic year with negligible numbers of coronavirus cases as campuses began to empty and more people were vaccinated. This last installment in a series that began in August shows slightly more than 100 cases were detected this past week across schools in Hernando, Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties. (Pasco Sheriff) LAND O LAKES, FL In response to accusations that the Pasco County Sheriff s Office is using predictive policing to identify children likely to become criminals, the sheriff and school system has revised its agreement regarding the sharing of information about students. The new agreement was unanimously approved by the Pasco County School Board at Tuesday s regularly scheduled meeting. Under the revised agreement, school resource officers will no longer be able to obtain student data, including student grades, attendance and discipline. Additionally, SROs will no longer have access to the school district s Early Warning System, which designates which students are considered off-track, on-track or at-risk. ....
Pasco school district will limit school resource officersâ access to student data By FOX 13 News staff Published LAND O LAKES, Fla. - An agreement between the Pasco County School District and sheriff’s office has been altered after the U.S. Department of Education opened an investigation into whether the district was breaking federal law. The agreement came to light after an investigation by the Tampa Bay Times found the school district shared student information with school resource officers, such as grades, attendance and who they associated with. The Times found that the sheriff’s office then allegedly used that information to compile a list of students whom they think might fall into a life of crime. ....
