A loss-making ferry service used by private school students has been saved after a backflip from the NSW government.
Students from Saint Ignatiusâ College Riverview faced the prospect of commuting to school on buses, which would add up to 20 minutes to journey times, after Captain Cook Cruises announced last month that the Lane Cove ferry service would cease on December 18.

The long-awaited restrictions for New Year s Eve have been announced but no matter where you are in Sydney, you re being urged to stay at home and watch the fireworks on TV or celebrate with a small group outdoors.
Tight restrictions apply for all of Greater Sydney and the special celebrations for frontline workers around the harbour have been cancelled.

Clover Moore says New Year's Eve fireworks 'should not go ahead' unless it's safe

Sydney lord mayor Clover Moore says the New Year s Eve fireworks should be cancelled if police and health authorities are not convinced the event can be held safely, as the city confronts a growing coronavirus outbreak.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has said New Year s Eve fireworks should be enjoyed at home or at a local venue.

But the government said there were no plans to cancel this year s scaled-back event, which will feature a seven-minute fireworks show at midnight, as the northern beaches virus cluster rose to 83 cases on Monday.
Cr Moore said the council had been concerned it would be impossible to make New Year s Eve festivities safe, given the spectacle typically draws about one million people to the Sydney Harbour foreshore and surrounds. ....
