NEW HAVEN, Conn. The deadly May 12 New Haven house fire, that killed firefighter Ricardo Torres, Jr. and severely injured Lt. Samod Rankins, remains under investigation. This could be the case for quite some time.
The fire investigation at 190 Valley Street, which remains under the direction of the Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit (FEIU), is primarily focused on how two firefighters were rendered unconscious, with one dying.  ....

NEW HAVEN (AP) Connecticut officials are trying to determine whether hoarding played any role in a house fire that killed a New Haven firefighter and severely injured one of his colleagues, investigators said Thursday.
Firefighter Ricardo Torres Jr. died and Lt. Samod Rankins suffered serious burns after becoming trapped in the burning home on Valley Street early Wednesday morning. Rankins condition was improving, officials said.
Sgt. Paul Makuc, a fire investigator with state police, said during a news conference Thursday that officials were not sure yet whether there were hording conditions or “a lot of accumulation of combustible materials” in the home. ....

NEW HAVEN (AP) — Connecticut officials are trying to determine whether hoarding played any role in a house fire that killed a New Haven firefighter and severely injured one of his colleagues, investigators said Thursday.
Firefighter Ricardo Torres Jr. died and Lt. Samod Rankins suffered serious burns after becoming trapped in the burning home on Valley Street early Wednesday morning. Rankins’ condition was improving, officials said.

NEW HAVEN, Conn Finally, some good news coming out of the tragic New Haven fire that left one firefighter dead and another fighting for his life in the hospital.
Chief John Alston is with Lt. Samod Rankins at Bridgeport Hospital burn unit and Lt. Rankins’ condition has been steadily improving, said Assistant Chief Justin McCarthy, of the New Haven Fire Department.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner says the manner and cause of death of New Haven Firefighter Ricardo Torres is “pending further studies.” No funeral arrangements have been announced. ....
