Pub trade fury over giant Glasgow Green fan zone

SCOTTISH pub chiefs have reacted furiously to the news a 6,000-capacity fan zone will be set up in Glasgow Green for Euro 2020 next month.
The Scottish Licensed Trade Association said the decision, confirmed by Glasgow City Council today, “adds insult to injury” at a time when pubs in the city are still unable to serve alcohol inside their premises.
Glasgow remains in level three of the Scottish Government’s coronavirus restrictions regime amid continuing concern over infection rates of the so-called Indian variant. It means that while pubs can welcome customers indoors for meals and non-alcoholic drinks, alcohol can only be served in outdoor areas. ....

Hotel Property Investments and Australian Venue Co alliance snaps up another six pubs

The “slick” partnership between ASX-listed Hotel Property Investments (HPI) and private equity backed Australian Venue Co (AVC) has bought another six pubs, splitting the business and freehold between them.
Under the model, HPI acquires the pub freehold while AVC buys the business, its tenure secured by a long-term lease.

HPI on Monday announced it has outlaid $32.7 million as its share of the latest purchases, all leased to AVC for 20 years on an average weighted yield of 7.75 per cent.
The portfolio comprises the Surfair Beach Hotel in Marcoola for $10.45 million, Commonwealth Hotel Clermont for $3.06 million, Grand Hotel Clermont for $2.78 million, Capella Hotel in Capella for $3.34 million, Commonwealth Hotel Roma for $9.78 million and White Bull Tavern Roma for $3.25 million. ....

Listed pub landlord Hotel Property Investments has moved closer to owning a $1 billion portfolio of assets after teaming up with operator Australian Venue Co to acquire the Surfair Beach Hotel south of Noosa.
The $20 million deal to buy the Sunshine Coast venue adjoining Wyndham’s Ramada Hotel at Marcoola Beach was the sixth acquisition by HPI since February last year, when it ended five years’ of abstinence to buy two hotels in Sydney and Brisbane for a combined $60 million.

Private equity giant KKR has cancelled plans to float its Australian hotels owner Australian Venue Co, sources told Street Talk on Sunday.
It is understood KKR and AVCâs board opted to pull the float given uncertainty around the COVID-19 pandemic and the potential for there to be further shutdowns and disruptions to AVCâs business.
AVC, headed by Paul Waterson, spent the past fortnight pitching potential investors, before opting to postpone plans for an initial public offer. Â
