Uber crisis: UK Supreme Court rules against app as drivers now set to receive benefits

Uber operating companies had appealed to the Supreme Court after losing three earlier rounds of the fight.
An employment tribunal ruled in 2016 that Uber drivers were workers and entitled to workers rights.
That ruling was upheld by an employment appeal tribunal, and by Court of Appeal judges.

Lawyers representing Uber operating companies told Supreme Court justices that the employment tribunal ruling was wrong.
They said drivers did not undertake to work for Uber but were independent, third party contractors . ....

th, 1974, two months after becoming baseball’s home run king, Henry Aaron received a plaque from the U.S. Postmaster General. It said “America’s #1.” In home runs and in fan mail.
Not all of it was from well-wishers. The 900,000 letters Aaron received in 1973 contained hundreds upon hundreds of racist attacks and death threats. Aaron, who died on Friday at age 86, was Black; the man whose record he’d broken, Babe Ruth, was white. Former Macomb County assistant prosecutor to face two felony charges

The assistant attorney general who prosecuted a high-profile rape case in Isabella County will face two charges of misconduct in office.
Chris Becker, Kent County prosecutor, announced Thursday afternoon that he plans to file the two five-year felony charges sometime soon against Brian Kolodziej for his conduct prosecuting Ian Elliott in the Rachel Wilson case.
Elliott was accused of raping Wilson at his apartment shortly after the two met at The Cabin on Aug. 31, 2016.

Becker spoke in the vaguest terms about what specifically Kolodziej did, and said he didn t know when formal charges would be filed. He did say that the case will go through the same Isabella County courts where first the county and then the state prosecuted Elliott. ....
