MINNESOTA Nearly one year since the first case of the coronavirus was identified in Minnesota, the state is eyeing a major pandemic recovery milestone: administering at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to 1 million residents.
State officials confirmed the first case March 6, 2020. Since then, a total of 484,594 cases of the coronavirus have been diagnosed in Minnesota, and it has claimed 6,483 lives. ....

Healthcare facilities prepare for second round of COVID-19 vaccinations


According to MDH more than 57,000 people have been vaccinated statewide.

MINNEAPOLIS It s been nearly two weeks since healthcare facilities across the state started mass vaccination efforts in the fight against COVID-19. 
Vice President of Medical Affairs John Smyrski with Abbott Northwestern Hospital says they have vaccinated roughly 8,100 members of their healthcare team.
Over at North Memorial Health, Assistant Director of Pharmacy Paul Krogh says 1,600 workers have been vaccinated.
This is all in accordance with the health department s guidelines, vaccinating those in direct contact with patients along with those in long term care facilities first. ....

Behind the scenes, a flurry of activity as hospitals prep first COVID-19 vaccine


Around dawn on Tuesday, Paul Krogh and his colleagues at North Memorial Health greeted an important package at their Minneapolis hospital’s loading dock: A single box containing 975 doses of the game-changing Pfizer coronavirus vaccine, ready to be given to hundreds of the hospital’s front-line workers. 
“Our first doses are here,” Krogh, the hospital’s pharmacy services director, said as hospital staff cheered. “It’s an exciting time.” 
With so much hope riding on the creation and approval of vaccines meant to halt the spread of COVID-19, hospital officials say watching that first batch of shots arrive on their doorsteps has been a huge relief. ....
