PITTSBURGH One year ago, Lena Carson was pulling straight A s at the city s Creative and Performing Arts School across the river from her parent s home. She also swam every day at the local YMCA in preparation to compete at the annual state competition and enjoyed the everyday social life of a teenager.
Today, she is sitting at home. Again.
It has been nearly a year since she walked into CAPA, a magnet school she had to earn admission to through a portfolio of her work, and interacted with her teachers or friends. ....

Last November, North Dakota peaked at 10,209 active cases.
North Dakota, once a major coronavirus hotspot, has seen its situation improve significantly in recent weeks and experts say it could be because of a number of reasons, including behaviour change and herd immunity in certain populations.
Last November, North Dakota peaked at 10,209 active cases. As of Wednesday, the state was reporting 1,051 active cases.
Dr. Joshua Wynne, vice-president of health affairs at the University of North Dakota, said the drop in cases is most likely the result of more people following public health guidelines. ....

Decision due this week on plans for anaerobic digester in Tullamore

OFFALY County Council will publish its decision next Wednesday, January 27 on whether to allow Strategic Power Ltd to build an anaerobic digester at Ballyduff, Tullamore.
If it gets planning permission the development will include a feedstock reception hall, two primary digester tanks, one secondary digester tank, two liquid digestate storage tanks, two manure reception tanks, a solid digestate store and pasteurisation unit.
Permission is being  sought for 10 years. The proposed development will require an industrial emissions licence from the Environmental Protection Agency. An Environmental Impact Assessment report accompanied the planning application.  ....
