Hubble spies double-star exoplanet in long orbit like hypothetical path of 'Planet Nine' – Astronomy Now

Using the exquisite resolution of the Hubble Space Telescope, researchers analysing 14 years of data have managed to characterise the 15,000-year orbit of a massive exoplanet slowly circling a double star some 336 light years away.
The planet is more than 730 times farther away from its parent stars than Earth is from the Sun, in a steeply inclined orbit well outside a dusty debris disc surrounding the double star. As it turns out, the orbit of the exoplanet, known as HD 106906b, is similar to the presumed path of a hypothesised “Planet Nine” in Earth’s solar system. ....

UC Berkeley astronomers provide support for existence of 'Planet Nine'

UC Berkeley researchers have detected the orbital motion of an exoplanet discovered in 2013 known as HD 106906 b.
These findings, published in The Astronomical Journal on Dec. 10, provide support for the existence of a hypothesized Planet Nine, an undiscovered planet with a similar orbit to HD 106906 b, according to UC Berkeley graduate and lead author Meiji Nguyen. The paper also raised questions about how a massive planet such as HD 106906 b is formed.
Though astronomers first discovered HD 106906 b as a planet in 2013, the first images of the planet were taken in 2004, according to Nguyen. Until now, researchers within the field of astronomy were unsure whether the planet was stationary or in orbit. ....

Mysterious Planet Nine discovery may be forthcoming after bizarre exoplanet found in deep space

Although scientists have yet to find the elusive Planet 9, a recently discovered exoplanet in deep space may provide further evidence the mysterious celestial object indeed exists.
The exoplanet HD 106906 b is 336 light years from Earth and has a bizarre orbit around its pair of host stars, going around once every 15,000 years, according to a study published in The Astronomical Journal.
First discovered in 2013, the exoplanet is massive, at 11 times the size of Jupiter. Yet, it was only recently, thanks to measurements from the Hubble Space Telescope, that scientists were able to see its elongated 730 times the distance between the Earth and the sun and inclined orbit, unlike any of the known planets in the Solar System. ....
