WINNIPEG The frigid temperatures outside are causing a mess inside. Manitoba plumbers are answering a flood of calls to fix frozen pipes, as a cold snap drags on in the province. “It’s been crazy busy,” said Mark Pelletier, owner of Shorty’s Plumbing and Heating in Winnipeg, on Tuesday. Pelletier said the phone has been ringing non-stop since the weekend. “We’ve had guys going all through the night; we’re trying to help as many people as we possibly can.” As of Tuesday night, much of Manitoba remained under an extreme cold warning. Temperatures have dipped below -30C and feel more like -40C with the wind chill. ....

Today, the Minister of Labour, Filomena Tassi, announced the reappointments of three vice-chairs to the Canada Industrial Relations Board: Louise Fecteau, Paul Love and Lynne Poirier. All three were initially appointed following an open, transparent and merit-based selection process. Two employer members, Richard Brabander and Barbara Mittleman, and one employee member, Paul Moist, were also reappointed to the Board following consultation with organizations representative of employees and employers.
