Gautier officials cut ribbon on Shepard State Park improvements Updated May 14, 2021; GAUTIER, Miss. Gautier city officials cut the ribbon this week on two new amenities at Shepard State Park. The first is a new welcome center facing Graveline Road, created from a historic two-story log cabin. The other is a new marshwalk pier, which takes visitors on an educational and scenic journey through the secluded 400-acre park. With the help of $250,000 in Tidelands funding, provided through the Legislature and the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources, the two amenities will add new experiences for visitors to the city-managed park. “The beautifully renovated log cabin is full of character and sets the tone for visitors entering Shepard State Park,” said city manager Paula Yancey. “It will serve as a welcome center, meeting/classroom space and a general store for Shepard State Park’s campers. Legislature approves $6.1 million in GOMESA funds for Gautier projects Updated Apr 01, 2021; GAUTIER, Miss. – The Mississippi Legislature has awarded $6.1 million in funding for a variety of projects in Gautier, City Manager Paula Yancey announced today. “I would like to thank our legislative delegation, especially Rep. John Read, and the governor’s office for working to secure this funding,” Yancey said. “These funds will be crucial in helping meet Gautier’s infrastructure needs and in giving our residents the quality-of-life enhancements they deserve.” The City was awarded $2,668,265 in GOMESA funding for the Gautier-Vancleave Road Sewer Improvements project, which will improve coastal water quality, protect natural resources and mitigate damage to fish and wildlife by eliminating the inflow and infiltration problems. ....

Gautier names Josh Latch new fire chief after nearly five months as interim Updated Mar 16, 2021; Latch’s appointment to the position was announced Monday by Gautier City Manager Paula Yancey. “Josh is very organized, has great follow-up and is a team builder,” Yancey said of her decision to name Latch the permanent chief. “I feel that team-building is critically important, especially among first responders. Everyone wants to be heard, and I know that Josh listens and communicates with his firefighters. He has an open-door policy.” The 44-year-old Latch has been with the Gautier Fire Department since 2008, advancing to lieutenant by 2016 and in 2018 was named an assistant chief in charge of training. ....
