NORWALK, Conn. It’s ridiculous to take credit for great things going on in Norwalk parks, developments that were years and even decades in the making, and then claim the Recreation and Parks Department was mismanaged before the latest director came in, Mike Mocciae said.
Mocciae, speaking recently to NancyOnNorwalk from his retirement enclave in South Carolina, hotly took aim at comments made by Norwalk Chief of Staff Laoise King when it was announced that his replacement, Recs & Parks Director Nick Roberts, was leaving.

NORWALK, Conn. Norwalk would ideally spend $20-30 million a year for two decades to update its schools, according to consultants hired to study the district’s facilities and advise the Board of Education.
“There’s probably some sticker shock when we look at these numbers, but it is not surprising if you’re looking at other districts that
are investing as they should in their schools,” Rachel Pampel of Newman Architects said Tuesday.
The numbers stemming from the 12-week study by Newman + DLR Group actually indicate up to $35 million in year one, to address “critical maintenance” and “critical multi-school projects.” Recommendations were made based on a “tiering” system, designed to make it equitable.

NORWALK, Conn. Somehow, the discussion stemming from years of parental public pleading for an state-of-the-art girls softball field at Brien McMahon High School did not reach the people who would be most affected by the sought-after changes, the people who live across the street.
The Norwalk Zoning Commission has therefore delayed its decision on the proposed field and its 60-foot-tall light poles. Zoners have kept their public hearing open, suggesting that the City show the neighbors other fields, to support the claim that new technology keeps light from spreading to surrounding properties. They also said they wanted to hear from the Board of Education.
