Zardari gets bail till 28th in US flat probe July 8, 2021 ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday granted interim bail to former president Asif Zardari till July 28, in a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) inquiry pertaining to a property in New York City. The court granted bail to the former president against surety bonds worth Rs500,000 and stopped the NAB from arresting him until the next date of hearing. The bench also sought comments from the anti-graft body against the pre-arrest bail petition. A division bench comprising Chief Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Justice Aamer Farooq announced the decision after listening to arguments from the petitioner’s lawyer Farook H Naek. Zardari appeared before the court in compliance with the bench’s directives.

Speaking outside the Islamabad High Court (IHC), where he appeared for a bail hearing, Zardari was asked to give his opinion on whether the laws are different for him and the PML-N leader. “Mian Sahab’s domicile is better than mine,” he responded. When asked whether he would advise Nawaz to return to Pakistan, the PPP stalwart said he would not give anyone any advice, but if someone wants to, they can.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Aamer Farooq heard the pre-arrest bail case of the former president filed through his counsel Farook Naek. At the outset of hearing, Naek pleaded that the former president could not appear before the court due to health problems and requested the court to grant him bail in the NAB inquiry in his absence. He said he had also filed an application seeking exemption from hearing for his client.

July 7, 2021 The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday rejected a request to hear former president Asif Ali Zardari’s pre-arrest bail plea in New York apartment case in absentia. A division bench of the IHC comprising Chief Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Aamer Farooq heard the pre-arrest bail, while an application for Zardari’s exemption from court attendance on medical grounds was also filed, a private TV channel reported. Zardari had filed a plea for pre-arrest bail after the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) opened an investigation into a New York apartment allegedly owned by Zardari. During the hearing, Zardari’s lawyer Farooq H Naik pleaded that the former president couldn’t appear before the court due to health problems. He prayed the court to grant him bail in NAB inquiry in his absence. He contended that Zardari is under treatment at a private hospital in Karachi.

An IHC division bench, comprising Chief Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Aamer Farooq, heard the pre-arrest bail case of former president filed through his counsel Farook H. Naek. During hearing Naek pleaded that former president couldn t appear before court due to health problems and prayed the court to grant him bail in NAB inquiry in his absence. He said that he had also filed an application, seeking exemption from hearing for his client. Zardari was under treatment in hospital, he contended. He, however, said that the former president would appear before court if it summoned him in person.
