To the Editor: As everyone knows, this was a year unlike any other. The pandemic caused so many changes in our usual way of doing things. There was no exception for Christmas for Kids and Christmas for Teens. We were truly challenged with providing Christmas for the families as well as keeping everyone safe. We were blessed with many helping hands and constructive ways of delivering. On behalf of the Board of Directors of Rightstart, Inc., Christmas for Kids and Christmas for Teens programs, we would like to thank the many schools, businesses, banks, credit unions, churches, civic groups and individuals in the Oxford Hills community as well as individuals who live outside the Oxford Hills for their support of these programs. Rightstart is an all-volunteer organization serving children and teens in the Oxford Hills. ....
Paris-born columnist and award-winning novelist Reavis Z. Wortham will be at the Paris Public Library on Saturday for a âcome and goâ book signing. Due to ongoing Covid-19 precautions, there will be no discussion before the signing, and masks are encouraged but not required. The event is scheduled for 1 to 3 p.m. The cover of author Reavis Z. Submitted Photo Wortham was born in Paris, but lived and was educated in Dallas, spending most weekends, vacations and holidays in Chicota, in north Lamar County, with family. He attended Eastfield Junior College in Mesquite and earned a B.S. in industry management from East Texas State University (now Texas A&M Commerce), before earning a teaching degree and going to work for the Garland ISD. He retired from GISD as communications director. ....

The day before she died, Jane was preparing for Christmas, a favorite holiday. She sat in her kitchen writing cards and watching the birds outside her window. She made date nut bread with her caretaker, Linda Smith, read the New York Times on the computer, and watched the sunset. Her body was failing her, but her mind remained as keen as ever. ....
