POTSDAM - The Rotary Club of Potsdam will honor Colton residents Nancy Griffin with the Service Above Self Award and Michael Griffin as a Paul Harris Fellow at its annual dinner on Tuesday, June 8, at the Potsdam Town & Country Club. Taylor Robertson of Parishville will also be installed as 2021-2022 president at the event.
Nancy Griffin will be honored with the Service Above Self Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the Potsdam community.
Michael Griffin will be honored as a Paul Harris Fellow for his demonstrated commitment to the goals and purposes of Rotary and in appreciation of their tangible assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations among peoples of the world.
To mask or not to mask? That is the question.
Confusion abounds in St. Lawrence County since the mask mandate for fully vaccinated people was lifted in New York state starting Wednesday, May 19, with some exceptions, including schools, health care facilities, and public transportation.
Potsdam Walmart employees and customers were a mix of people both with and without masks. Signs still remained inside and outside the Potsdam store Wednesday afternoon stating “Face masks are required for all customers and associates, per local/state order.”
Walmart employees said it was optional for all fully vaccinated, and that the manager said the signs were going to be removed.

MASSENA: It is with a heavy heart that the family of Linda L. Avery, formerly of Taylor Rd. report her unexpected passing, on Saturday April 17th, 2021 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. The family will be holding private funeral services this summer followed by a Celebration of Life for family and friends.
There will be no public calling hours per Linda’s wishes.
Linda was born on June 13th, 1942 in Potsdam NY to the late Garth M. and Teresa (Fiacco) Avery. She attended Massena Central School, graduating in 1960. She graduated from Ogdensburg Business School where she obtained a degree and began teaching at the Business School. Linda retired from the St. Lawrence County Health Dept.
