The Land Conservancy of McHenry County is hosting a variety webinars in March and April that cover native plant, gardening and nature topics. Each webinar is $5 or free. Advance registration is required. More information is available at www.ConserveMC.org.
• Native Shrubs for the Home Landscape: Native shrubs provide year-round beauty as well as food and nesting habitat for birds and pollinators. Sarah Michehl from TLC will share information on native shrubs appropriate for the home landscape. Foundation plantings, privacy hedgerows, and species to feature will be covered from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, March 11. Cost is $5. Register at www.ConserveMC.org ....

Barrington Woman Charged With Aggravated Battery of a Child, Police Say

A Barrington woman was charged with Aggravated Battery of a Child Thursday stemming from incidents which occurred in a suburban church, police said.
Ann Marie Dziedzic, 36, was charged with one count of Aggravated Battery of a Child and five counts of Aggravated Battery in a Church based on events at The Lutheran Church of Atonement in Barrington, where she was employed as a child care worker, authorities said.

According to police, an investigation into the allegations began Feb. 4 after the Department of Children and Family Services received an anonymous tip. ....

The warmer, sunny days and cool nights of March encourage maple trees to produce their sweetest sap. Learn more about the process of making maple syrup at events around the suburbs this month.

The Forest Preserves of Cook County is offering Sap s Rising at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through March 21, at the River Trail Nature Center, 3120 Milwaukee Ave. in Northbrook. Walk in the sugar maple forest to learn about the sweet process of maple syrup making. All participants are required to wear masks and practice physical distancing. Registration is required for this free event by calling River Trail at (847) 824-8360. ....
