New Delhi: The Samyukt Kisan Morcha(SKM) in a statement on Saturday condemned the alleged lathicharge by Haryana Police on farmers protesting against Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar at Asthal Bohar in Rohtak district.
Many farmers were injured in this attack by police, the organisation claimed in the statement.
As farmers came to know about Khattar’s visit, many of them including women gathered outside a private university where the chief minister’s chopper was to land. ....

Bike-borne assailants open fire at him from close range
Bharatiya Kisan Union’s Haryana general secretary Jastej Singh Sandhu escaped unhurt on Monday after two motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire at him when he was going to meet protesting farmers here, police said.
The 45-year-old farmer leader, elder son of former Haryana Agriculture Minister late Jasvinder Sandhu, was going towards a toll plaza near Pehowa, DSP Gurmail Singh said.
The assailants overtook his car, which he was driving, and one of them fired at him from a close range, said the DSP, adding the shot came through the glass of the driver’s seat and passed through the windscreen. ....

New Delhi: Eight journalists who covered the farmer protests in India and violence in Delhi on January 26, 2021 are facing baseless criminal charges, Human Rights Watch said in a statement on February 2. The Indian authorities should drop the charges, which include sedition, promoting communal disharmony, and making statements prejudicial to national integration.
“The Indian authorities’ response to protests has focused on discrediting peaceful protesters, harassing critics of the government, and prosecuting those reporting on the events,” said Meenakshi Ganguly, South Asia director at Human Rights Watch. “The government instead should conduct a transparent and impartial investigation into the January 26 violence in Delhi.” ....
