Board of Elections certifies May 4 election

SIDNEY Results from the May 4 election were certified Monday morning by the Shelby County Board of Elections.
The final results for the Sidney City Schools 0,75% earned income tax levy was 2,128 votes (57.62%) for the levy and 1,565 votes (42,38%) against the levy. On Election Day, 665 voters cast a yes vote for the levy, while 998 people voted against the levy. Election night totals were 2,102 votes in favor of the levy, 57.45%, and 1,557 votes against, 42.55%.
Absentee voters who voted at the board of elections office were the deciding factor for the passage of the levy, as 1,083 people voted yes and o0nly 470 people voted no. Mail-in absentee voters accounted for another 137 yes votes and only 78 no votes. Provisional ballots, which were approved Monday Morning, accounted for another 23 yes votes and eight no votes.
Board of Elections considers polling location contingency plans

SIDNEY – The Shelby County Board of Elections is considering contingency options for a pair of polling locations for the November 2021 general election.
During the May 4 board meeting, the Board of Elections learned sewer and drainage improvements are scheduled at the fairgrounds this upcoming fall. That work could disrupt traffic flow and parking at the fairgrounds polling location.
The board also has concerns about the Lockington United Methodist Church polling location and its availability for future elections. In November 2020 the church canceled in-person worship because of reduced attendance and volunteer support.
Board of Elections accept special election ballots

SIDNEY – The Shelby County Board of Elections certified and accepted the final ballots for the May special election during its Monday morning meeting on March 15.
The May 4, 2021, special election will only have two issues on ballots for voters to consider, said Director Pam Kerrigan. The first issue is an earned income tax levy for the Sidney City School District, and the second is a property tax levy for the Houston Ambulance District. Twenty-one of the county’s 35 precincts will be open for the May special election.
