PARK HILL – After receiving a kidney transplant, Cherokee artist Pam Turtle was unable to work, and she needed to find something to do with her time.
“My granddaughter Emma was running for Little Miss Cherokee and we had gotten her, her tear dress. We had gotten her, her corn beads and Sheila Bird came and sewed her moccasins on her feet and she needed some bracelets. She needed some traditional clay bracelets and that’s what got me started,” Turtle said.
Turtle went out and got the clay she needed to make a bracelet for her granddaughter. After successfully hand rolling beads for her granddaughter’s bracelet, she decided that she could “do it better” and dove in headfirst to try and better her craft. ....
