Update at 10:30am: Following some high country snow late last week, Caltrans reports that Highway 108 Sonora Pass and Highway 4 Ebbetts Pass are both back open for seasonal travel.
Original story at 9:25am: Strawberry, CA Crews are making a final run this morning along both Highway 108 Sonora Pass and Highway 4 Ebbetts ahead of hopefully reopening both roads.
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Caltrans spokesperson Bob Highfill reports that both passes should tentatively reopen sometime later today. We will pass along more information when it becomes available.
Sonora Pass reopened for the season on May 6 and Ebbetts Pass swung the gates open on May 13. Both passes were then closed last Thursday due to high country ....

Crews Repair Highway 108 Sonora Pass
Tuolumne County, CA Barring any last-minute unforeseen development, Caltrans reports that they will reopen Highway 108 Sonora Pass at noon today.
Spokesperson Bob Highfill says, “Crews have been working diligently to remove snow and ice, clear debris, and making necessary repairs to the roadway to help ensure the public’s safety.”
When the pass reopens, he urges travelers to use extra caution and be mindful of other motorists. Adding, “We are also kind of in an extreme fire danger situation. We know what has happened in recent years and don’t want that to happen again. So, folks should be mindful of anything that can cause a spark.” ....

A mass vaccination site at Stockton Arena did not open as planned on Tuesday after health care providers did not receive the anticipated supply of vaccines from the state, Kaiser Permanente said Sunday.
The Stockton mass vaccination hub, which was to be operated by Kaiser and a consortium of health care partners, was delayed until the necessary COVID-19 vaccine is available. Kaiser says it learned late last week that the state did not receive enough vaccine supply to provide it for the Stockton hub. ....

Attorney for Stockton teen injured by police praises firing of officers


Saturday, some 50 protesters gathered in downtown Stockton to protest police brutality, marching from the Stockton Police Department down El Dorado Street on their way to City Hall, where Burris was preparing to hold a news conference.
Stockton Police Chief Eric Jones said the case has been turned over to the San Joaquin County District Attorney s Office for review. District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar said her office is proceeding with its own independent investigation to determine if criminal charges should be brought against the officers who were fired, identified by police as Michael Stiles and Omar Villapudua.
Both officers served on the department s Community Response Team, police said. Stiles was hired by the department in 2018 and Villapudua in 2016. ....

John M. Solis recently had the bittersweet formality of addressing the board of the San Joaquin County Employment and Economic Development Department. After more than 40 years, Solis officially announced his retirement on February 27, 2021 with the department and from a highly decorated and distinguished career in which he implemented many innovative programs to help young people find good-paying and rewarding careers. Solis, whose family immigrated to Stockton from Jalisco, Mexico, when he was just 3 years old, grew up in Stockton, attended St. George Elementary School, St. Mary’s High School and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of San Francisco and a master’s degree in business administration from California State Uni ....
