During Mondayâs meeting, Lash called into question a conclusion written by the group which said there wasnât anything that could be done to mitigate flood waters in the West Lakes chain. He said the commissionâs view from the outset is that it doesnât want water flowing uninhibited from the West Lakes chain because that water creates problems further down the watershed â water that residents in that area donât want.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – As many of you know, we are a family at News4Jax and a one-time member of our family is always a member. So it is with sadness that we share with you the passing of an unsung giant in the television industry who began his career here at Channel 4.
Calvin Haywood died at 68 in Jacksonville, his hometown.
Calvin was the director of our 11 p.m. newscast in the 1970s. While you never saw his face on the screen, you definitely saw his handiwork if you were watching WJXT that long ago or were a sports fan anywhere in this country.

On Monday, Calvin Haywood passed away. Haywood, a prominent sports director, had worked for ESPN and ABC since 1982, and for YES since 2005 (as per his LinkedIn bio), both in staff and freelance roles. He was the first Black director of ABC’s
Wide World of Sports, and was the first Black director of ESPN studio shows as well, working on
SportsCenter and on many other properties. He then went on to make a huge impact at YES. Both ESPN and YES put out notable tributes to him:
