Shoreline reinstates superintendent's pay

Bob Raines, the superintendent of the Shoreline Unified School District who was arrested on June 8 for lewd acts with a child under age 14, had his pay reinstituted by the school board last week. After meeting with lawyer Jennifer Henry in closed session on June 23, board president Jill Manning-Sartori announced that Mr. Raines was placed on paid leave, reversing a decision to put him on unpaid leave under an education code that guides districts when employees are charged with sex crimes. Mr. Raines has been released on bail, and the District Attorney is still reviewing the case. Before the arrest, he announced he was retiring on June 30. At the board’s June meeting, one member of the public asked if Mr. Raines would still receive his retirement package, and the question was not acknowledged. Bob Raines, the superintendent of the Shoreline Unified School District who was arrested on June 8 on charges of lewd acts with a child under the age of 14, was placed on unpaid leave by the school board last week.
The county district attorney’s office is reviewing the case to decide whether or not to file charges, and the school district and sheriff’s office are being tight-lipped about what happened. Details about when and where the alleged crime was committed have not been shared, and the district has not confirmed that the alleged victim was a student. The crime was reported on June 1 in Tomales. The Light’s requests for more information from board members, principals, family advocates and counselors have gone unanswered. ....

Bob Raines, the superintendent of the Shoreline Unified School District for the last five years, was arrested on Tuesday for lewd acts with a child under the age of 14. The district reported the incident to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office a week earlier and placed Mr. Raines on administrative leave. Detectives developed probable cause, and Mr. Raines was arrested at his home in Petaluma, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office. He was released on $50,000 bail and is denying the allegations against him.
Mr. Raines was set to retire at the end of the month after a 43-year career in education. ....

ETSU presents new symposium 'Science and Fictions: Cinema in East Tennessee' | News


“Science and Fictions: Cinema in East Tennessee,” a virtual symposium presented by East Tennessee State University’s departments of Media and Communication and Literature and Language, is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 14-15, via Zoom.
This free event is focused on artists, filmmakers, researchers and writers who will share insights on key topics for the region using film as a catalyst for conversation and action. It is composed of three seminars, an asynchronous film screening, a film production skills workshop, and a collaborative film and design workshop.
