Bob Champion who is famously known for his Grand National win just one year after battling cancer, has marked his 40-year journey with a visit to the Royal Marsden and the Institute of Cancer Research.
The Grand National winner embarked on a 191-mile charity walk to represent the 191 days from his diagnosis in 1979.
The fundraising walk, 40 for 40, highlights 40 memorable stops, all connected to his remarkable life story and representing every year from 1981 to 2021.
On Saturday (May 8), Bob visited the Royal Marsden as one of his walking points due to the pivotal role it played in his cancer recovery. ....

Grand National legend and cancer survivor Bob Champion faces surgery for a kidney tumour after he completes his charity walk.
The winner of the 1981 race on Aldaniti suffered with his health before embarking on the fundraiser, which began on April 11, a day after this year s renewal.
Champion planned the 191-mile route to represent the number of days from his cancer diagnosis on July 24 1979 to receiving the all clear January 31 1980 – and going on to Aintree glory the following year.
His mount Aldaniti, 40 years on from his memorable success, had also recovered from a serious injury. ....

A home test kit for prostate cancer that could help with early diagnosis of aggressive forms of the disease while reducing the need for trips to hospital is being trialled.
Researchers will post kits to 2,000 men in the UK, Europe and Canada, with participants asked to give two urine samples to return by mail for lab analysis.
Teams from the University of East Anglia (UEA) and the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) trialled the kit with a small group of participants before the latest phase of the study. ....

Thousands of men worldwide are to receive a home test kit for prostate cancer – thanks to pioneering research from the University of East Anglia and the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH).

The research team are trialing a new home-testing ‘Prostate Screening Box’ to collect men’s urine samples at-home. The urine samples will be used to analyze the health of the prostate in 2,000 men in the UK, Europe and Canada.
This simple urine test is intended to diagnose aggressive prostate cancer and in a pilot study predicted which patients required treatment up to five years earlier than standard clinical methods. ....
