The ultra-violet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) technology uses short-wavelength UV light to kill airborne infectious pathogens, including COVID-19. It is also a more energy-efficient air purification system. Eastern Energy Solutions, Inc. was contracted to install the UVGI system. EES President Bob Granger says this technology has been around for more than 75 years, but was primarily used in health care facilities. Young visitors at the Children’s Museum of Branch County can now find out, thanks to a partnership between the Children’s Museum and the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities. A newly-installed interactive exhibit at the Children’s Museum, “The Pedal Power,” encourages visitors to pedal a bike to keep the lights on in four different rooms of a house display. Every time a light switch is turned on, the bike gets progressively harder to pedal until all four light switches are on and the “pedal power” is significant. ....
