Staff report The Fellowship of Christian Athletes has named Keira Reid, a student at Trumbull Career and Technical Center, as the Student-Athlete of the Month for March. Reid is a senior at TCTC studying exercise science and carries a grade point average of 3.96. She competes athletically for Lakeview, where she has lettered twice in cross country and is working on her second letter in track. Reid helps lead the FCA Huddle at TCTC and has been involved with her Youth Leadership Team at North Mar Church. She is planning on continuing her education at Owens Community College near Toledo. Katie Wright, English instructor at TCTC and FCA Huddle host, says Reid “has grown tremendously as a leader these last two years.” ....
Staff report The Fellowship of Christian Athletes Steel Valley recognized the March “Coach of the Month” with co-award winners John Grandy and Rob Gelonese, who have helped power Struthers FCA for decades. Retired Coach John Grandy has done it all, coaching from intramurals to multiple league and district championship in girls basketball, mentoring and caring for his players in football, girls and boys basketball, baseball, and cross country. He has served as a certified basketball official for eight years. Grandy said “there’s a difference between being a coach who is a Christian vs. a Christian coach. The difference is a Christian coach lives it in everything one says and does. They walk the walk, spread the word of the Bible, are Christlike, and make disciples. Feb 6, 2021 WHITE MASS: The Diocese of Youngstown will host the 25th annual White Mass for all health care professionals 10:30 a.m. Feb. 14 at St. Columba Cathedral, 154 W. Wood St. Bishop David Bonnar will be the principle celebrant for the Mass, which celebrates all health professionals, including mental health workers, and recognizes the ministry of all those in the healing professions. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, participants in the White Mass need to RSVP by calling 330-744-8451, Ext. 272 to ensure sufficient space with social distancing.
