By Nathan Prewett LEEDS During a meeting of the Leeds City Council on Monday, June 7, a project to replace the city’s streetlights was authorized. Additionally, an amendment 772 public hearing was held for the council to grant funds to three nonprofits, followed by a rezoning request that was opposed by several residents. In this hearing, the council considered granting $2,000 to the Women’s Literary Club of Leeds, $2,500 to the Exceptional Foundation, and $10,000 to the Leeds Arts Council. No one spoke for or against the resolution, which was passed unanimously in the regular meeting. ....
A little more than a year after opening the Rocky Mountain Chuck Wagon at the Quality Inn and Suites, owner Bobby Howard made the difficult decision to close the restaurant’s doors this week, citing an inability to retain staffing and provide quality service to its customers. The restaurant’s official Facebook page made the announcement to the community Tuesday night, setting a closure for Friday. When reached for comment regarding the closure Wednesday, Howard cited staffing issues and a decline in the level of service the restaurant was able to provide. Wonderful characters from a diverse array of books leaped off the pages into the classrooms at Ballydesmond National School last Friday as children and staff celebrated World Book Day in style. We have been celebrating World Book Day in our school for many years. The children love it. It s a break from the routine of work and gives them the opportunity to foster a love of reading and books, teacher Ella O Sullivan told The Corkman. The children had a wonderful time, we had everyone from Captain Underpants to Harry Potter and from cowboys to unicorns enrolling for the one day event. It is lovely to see the children get such enjoyment from books and reading, Ella said. ....
