Rifle police looking for potential suspects linked to recent murder


The Rifle Police Department is currently offering a $1,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of any suspects involved with the recent slaying of a homeless man.
Bobby Honeycutt, 57, was originally located with injuries consistent with an assault near a Rifle gas station around 11 a.m. May 22, according to a statement released by the RPD on Monday.
“The citizen that located Mr. Honeycutt and a Kum and Go employee rendered aid until Colorado River Fire Rescue arrived,” the RPD said. “Mr. Honeycutt was transported to Grand River Hospital in Rifle and he was subsequently transferred to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction.” ....

About 300,000 people are expected to descend on Daytona Beach, Florida, this week for a large annual motorcycle rally called Bike Week that is taking place during a pandemic in a state with few restrictions to slow its spread.
Excitement about the event has been tempered by pushback from some motorcycle enthusiasts in a Facebook group dedicated to the rally who feared it could turn into a coronavirus superspreader event. Last August, the Sturgis motorcycle rally in South Dakota drew more than 450,000 bikers, most of whom did not wear masks or appear to follow social-distancing guidelines. ....

Montgomery: A state Senate committee has advanced a bill that would let the governor pick the state’s top public health official. The Senate Health Committee voted 8-3 on Wednesday to advance the bill by Sen. Jim McClendon to the Senate floor. McClendon, an optometrist, said the change would make the position more accountable to elected leaders. But two other doctors on the committee argued it is wrong to interject politics into public health decisions. The state health officer, a position currently held by Dr. Scott Harris, is selected by the state public health committee, which consists of members appointed by the Medical Association of the State of Alabama.
