KUALA
LUMPUR: A man and a woman were charged in the Selayang Sessions Court today for transmitting false communications regarding the loss of a gold ingot weighing more than 220 kilogrammes at a temple in Batu Caves last year.
D. Arumugam, 51, and R. Thanaletchimy, 63, pleaded not guilty after the charges against them were read separately before Judge Nor Rajiah Mat Zin.
Arumugam was alleged to have knowingly made and initiated the transmission of false communication with intent to annoy others through ‘Arun Dorasamy’ Facebook profile at 4.27 pm on Feb 6 last year while Thanaletchimy was also alleged to have made a similar offence through a WhatsApp group called ‘Makkal Mandram 101’ at 2.27 pm on Feb 11 the same year. ....

Police close several roads in Gombak for Thaipusam chariot journey

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Several roads in Gombak district will be closed in conjunction with the Thaipusam chariot journey from Wednesday (Jan 27) until early morning on Jan 29.
Gombak police chief ACP Arifai Tarawe said the roads were closed following the approval of the National Security Council (NSC) to allow the journey of the chariot carrying the statute of Lord Murugan from Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Jalan Tun H.S Lee to Seri Subramaniam Temple in Batu Caves tomorrow.
The route involved the slip road to Batu Caves Temple, the slip road from MRR2 to Jalan Perusahaan Batu Caves, junction of Jalan Perusahaan to Batu Caves roundabout and road to main bathing spot in Sungai Batu Caves, he said in a statement on Wednesday. ....

Ramasamy criticises NSC's approval for Thaipusam chariot procession in Batu Caves

pic) claimed the NSC s decision was irresponsible and smacks of double standards with total disregard for views from the state.
Penang was the first to announce the cancellation of the Thaipusam festival and chariot procession followed by Selangor and other states, even before the decision was made by the NSC.
But all of a sudden, with less than a week to go for Thaipusam, the NSC has made an about turn on the chariot procession matter, said Ramasamy in his Facebook post on Sunday (Jan 24).
He said the NSC has made an exception for the chariot procession from the Sri Maha Mariamman Dhevasthanam in Jalan Tun HS Lee to the Batu Caves temple on Jan 27, with only 10 devotees allowed to follow the procession. ....
