Laoye likes to refer to her book as affirmations for sons and validations for fathers. A picture book, “Men like My Father” highlights the role Black men have in society. “In the media, we often [see a] misrepresentation of Black people in general and specifically Black men in our society, so my book highlights the impact of good men and the various roles they place within our society,” said Laoye. ....

Amanda Taliana is one of the many Orangeville residents who has recently encountered coyotes, “We had coyotes in my area 4th Ave and 3rd Street. They tend to walk up and down 4th all the way up to First Street and then come back, go down Crimson court, then back to 4th Avenue towards the Home Depot to go home to Island Lake.” ....

Since the pandemic started, places like Indus Community Services are having to adapt the way they provide services for South Asian Women. South Asian women face barriers when it comes to domestic violence and, as a result, many have a hard time coming forward and gaining access to services and resources available to them. According to Rupi Muitanti, Family Court Support Worker of Indus Community Service, South Asian women face language barriers, systemic barriers, family pressure, financial support challenges, a lack of knowledge about services and resources available to them, immigration status, shortage of shelters and housing wait times, ineligibility for Legal Aid Ontario, Ontario Works, child care subsidy and transportation when it comes ....

Orangeville resident, Teena Avery is the owner of Elegant Professional Events and like many people, was in shock when COVID-19 hit. “When COVID hit last year, it was a big shock to everyone. I had just done a wedding show where I bring in different vendors and open it up to couples who need all different types of vendors, then everything such down shortly after. I had 20 plus weddings booked last year. We did six little ones,” said Avery. ....

Ward believes in community policing and because of that, Orangeville will see an increase in foot patrol and visibility. “I am a firm believer in community policing. You will see an increase in foot patrol, you will see an increase in visibility and I think that speaks volumes for creating a safe environment where the citizens in Orangeville will feel safe and secure,” he said.
