A HISTORIC listed building which was badly damaged by suspected arsonists is being renovated and brought back into use by a team of people determined to make it a hub of community activity. The grand 19th century building in Darlington’s Northgate was once owned by the Pease family but in recent years has been left derelict and is now fire damaged. Now the NQA food bank has moved into the building, which a team of volunteers has been renovating since March. They are working with a range of organisations providing services for the community, who will be based there in the coming months. ....

A FORMER Marks and Spencers which was turned temporarily into a community arts centre is up for sale and is currently under offer. Cornerstone Arts, which had been renting the former department store in Northgate, Darlington, has moved out of the building, which is currently standing vacant. Savills is selling the site and told the Echo that the building is currently under offer. The former M&S building in Darlington is under offer Louise Maddison, who set up the arts centre, is hoping to move to new premises shortly. And the NQA food bank, which was also based in the building, is reopening on Saturday at Pathfinder House, in Northgate. ....
