2021 Ford Ranger Tremor pickup delivers off-road performance and value

âTremorâ is a package of features. It costs $4,290, and is available on XLT and Lariat models. That means Ranger Tremor prices start around $40,000. Thatâs a couple of thousand dollars lower than competing midsize pickupsâ off-road models.
I tested a nicely equipped Ranger Lariat Tremor. Base price was $38,785 and $46,165 as equipped. All prices exclude destination charges.
Ford already offers Tremor versions of its larger F-150 and SuperDuty pickups. The nameâs only been around for a couple of years, but has a strong following.
Driving impressions
I recently took my Tremor to Holly Oaks off-road vehicle park north of Detroit on a windy, snowy and bitterly cold day. It proved more than capable of climbing steep, icy hills, slaloming through hillside snow and delivering quiet, comfortable operation on highways and surface streets. ....

Ford brought the Ranger back to the U.S. as a 2019 model year. However, it has been living its life globally since 2015. While that is still much newer that the 2021 Nissan Frontier that’s been around since 2005, its not exactly the all new platform it appears to be.

One of the first things noticed when driving the Ranger is that the rear suspension is stiff. The payload capacity of the Ranger is in line with many half-ton trucks. Consequently, this makes the little Ranger feel harsh over bumps when unladen, but also provides for very little body lean and good handling feel when driving twisty roads. ....
