As an urban municipality with an extensive coastline, the City of Groton’s impact on Long Island Sound is considerable and vice versa. Groton Conservation Advocates, a non-profit 501(c)(4) group committed to protecting Groton’s environment, therefore asked the two mayoral candidates in the March 8 primary election to express their views on city environmental issues so we could share them with the public.
Democratic incumbent Mayor Keith Hedrick and Democratic challenger Town Councilor Aundré Bumgardner responded. Because both candidates showed significant knowledge of Groton’s environmental issues, we opted to focus on their environmental records and aspirations for the city rather than endorse one candidate. ....

ABUJA-A peace and advocacy group, has commended Operation Safe Haven,OPSH,over the recent mass arrests of criminal elements consisting of kidnappers,armed robbers,bandits among others in Plateau State.
The group also hailed the Chief of Defence Staff,CDS, Major General Lucky Irabor, on the new operational directive to troops of Operation Accord 2, to ensure that criminal elements were denied freedom of action in the country.
The coalition,operating under the aegis of Coalition of Plateau Peace and Security Advocates (COPPASA), said the unprecedented achievements of OPSH would not have been possible without the operational and professional capability of the Commander, whose leadership drive, it noted, has continued to spur troops to victory against enemies of state in the general area. ....

The Day - Groton task force makes recommendation to address shortage of athletic fields in town

Groton The Athletic Fields Task Force has presented to the Town Council a proposed recommendation to address the long-standing issue of a shortage of athletic fields in town.
The recommendation calls for improving athletic facilities at Fitch High School and then locating additional fields at Sutton Park, near the high school, primarily for student use but also for the community, said Jerry Lokken, manager of recreation services for Groton Parks and Recreation and the town staff member on the task force.
The third part of the recommendation is to develop additional fields at the Claude Chester School property after the school closes, Lokken said. Claude Chester, which is slated to close at the end of this school year, is adjacent to Poquonnock Plains Park. ....
