Minister calls for border alert to stop those sneaking from high risk countries

Malawi’s Health Minister, Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, has called for vigilance among key agencies in the fight against Covid-19 in the country’s border posts to stop people that might be trying to use borders to sneak in from high risk countries.
Kandodo said security agencies and health workers in border posts have to be alert on travellers who are coming from high risk countries such as India, Bangladesh and Pakistan among other countries in order to safeguard the country from the virus.
She made the remarks on Friday when she presided over the handover ceremony of Covid-19 quarantine and screening facilities to the government of Malawi by United Kingdom (UK) government in partnership with Trade Mark East Africa. ....

Finland government, TMEA ink €10.5 million deal to support regional trade


A financial agreement worth €10.5 million between the Government of Finland and TradeMark East Africa (TMEA) has been signed.
The Government of Finland, represented by its Ambassador to Kenya H.E. Erik Lundberg, reiterated its commitment to supporting regional trade and the fight against COVID-19 pandemic in the East African region.
The event was officiated by Kenya’s Ministry of East Africa and Regional Development Principal Secretary Dr. Kevit Desai and witnessed by TMEA Board Chair Amb. Erastus Mwencha, TMEA CEO Mr. Frank Matsaert and TMEA Country Director Mr. Ahmed Farah.
Through this new Finnish funding, TMEA will scale up support to governments to adopt ICT for Trade systems in key trade agencies that contribute to the successful implementation of National Single Windows. TMEA has laid frameworks and forged partnerships to support multimodal transport corridors which not only reduce costs associated with trade, but also reduce the carbon footprint of transpor ....

Denmark pledges Ksh.1.9 billion to support Kenya's Green Trade & COVID-19 efforts

The Government of Denmark, represented by its Ambassador to Kenya H.E. Ole Thonke has restated its commitment to support Green Trade and the fight against COVID-19 in the East African region. The Ambassador reinstated this during a signing ceremony of twin Financial Agreements worth Ksh.1.19 billion (USD 17.5 million).
The funding will be channeled through TradeMark East Africa (TMEA), a leading Aid for Trade organization renowned for partnering with Eastern African governments to reduce barriers to trade through automation and adoption of sustainable physical infrastructures such as One Stop Border Posts (OSBPs), ports, among others.
In the two agreements, Ksh. 1.59 million (USD 14.5 million) will support Kenya’s efforts to transition to Green Trade and creating sustainable jobs under the Denmark and Kenya Strategic Framework for 2021 to 2025. The second agreement, about Ksh. 330 million (USD 3 million) will support continued response to COVID-19 under TradeM ....
