A number of schools across the north-east are expected to be over capacity by 2025, a new report has stated.
Aberdeenshire Council’s education and children’s services committee is to discuss a report updating councillors on the progress of the local authority’s learning estate when it meets next Thursday.
The most recent pupil census carried out last year has shown there are 20,971 primary school children, and 15,160 secondary pupils across the region.
There are 33 fewer primary pupils from the year before, and it is the third year that overall primary pupil numbers have fallen. ....

From the perspective of a 17 year old.

2020. The year that no-one could have predicted.
One that went from bad to worse in a matter of months. One that will require countless pages in the history books.
From the bushfires that swept through Australia to rumours of a third World War, 2020 was already turning out to be a significantly interesting year.
Then, as the cherry on top of the cake, Covid-19 struck the world and changed our lives forever.
This is my ode to the year that changed us all, how we survived it and how we can carry on.
It is rare to see complete overwhelming, world chaos. We watch from afar as it descends in films and read about it in books, but never actually experience that all-consuming, ground-breaking panic that grips us all – something that cannot be said after 2020. ....

Schools across the north-east have closed their doors to even the children of key worker families today as snow continues to fall.
With temperatures reaching their lowest in more than a decade in the Highlands, dozens of schools have announced they will be staying shut to all, with children to revert to online lessons.

CNOOC International’s Buzzard platform, which provided inspiration for the competition.
A group of Aberdeen school pupils have won a prestigious prize at an energy industry competition.
The youngsters from Robert Gordon’s College claimed the top spot at TechFest’s digital adaptation of its STEM in the Installation project.
The team, known as RGC Energy, consisted of Richard Varghese, Craig Gilchrist, Matthew Seward, Urquhart Dyce, Sideeq Remi-Shodipo, Robert Kennedy and Innes Cameron. They are all in sixth-year.
The project focused on transitioning to reduce carbon emissions as much as possible, as part of a global movement towards net zero. ....
