Beautiful Day finds its roots in the hardships that she and her husband had faced dealing with six house floods in a year.
From album to album, Abigail Dowd’s songwriting exists in nature as organically as a flowing river. “In our last interview,” she told PopMatters. “I spoke of songwriting as a lonely battlefield, and it felt that way on my second album. This time the process felt rooted in something larger than me and my own stories. Maybe I had to clear out my own stories on that last album to be able to get out of the way and write this one.” ....

CLEVELAND, Ohio Big box sets from John Lennon and the Who set the pace for this week’s batch of new music releases, while Dirty Honey, Peter Frampton, Eric Church and Twiztid offer up fresh recordings.

Lexington amphitheater to reopen with Depot District Music Fest

In a glimmer into the hopes of a return to normalcy, the City of Lexington announced Monday it will reopen the Breeden Insurance Amphitheater in June with the return of the Depot District Music Fest.
“Lexington is excited to introduce a blend of music genres from a talented lineup of performers that set the instrument strings on fire and deliver high-energy entertainment for live audiences,” said Lexington City Manager Terra Greene. “Held safely outdoors at the Breeden Insurance Amphitheater in Lexington, we are thrilled to welcome a broad enthusiastic crowd of live music lovers for the Depot District Music Fest.” ....

In 2018, singer-songwriter-guitarist Abigail Dowd found a new set of intentions while on the banks of the St. Vrain Creek outside of Boulder, Colo.: be fearless, listen to her inner voice at all costs, and learn to go with the flow. Little did she know how literal the flow would be. It came in the form of both water and songs as she and her husband navigated their home flooding six times in 13 months. Meet a Musician: Abigail Dowd says her whole life has been filled with music


Abigail Dowd doesn’t quite know just what genre her music fits into.
“Maybe it’s folk, maybe it s indie folk rock,” she said. “There’s probably a blues influence. A lot of people, I think, would describe it as folk, and whatever Americana means.”
The singer/songwriter has found inspiration in the longleaf pine, in the working class and in her grandfather’s service during the Korean War, and has earned a good deal of acclaim in recent years for a pair of albums, “Don’t Wake Me” and “Not What I Seem.” She is getting set to release another album, “Beautiful Day.” ....
